John Calderaio
John Calderaio graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science Engineering. During his education, he completed three internship and two research positions.
On his first day as a Chemist at The Renewable Corporation, he identified the effect that the pH fluctuation was having on their product’s shelf life, saving the company upwards of thousands of dollars per year. During his second internship as a Software Engineer at Lockheed Martin, he developed web applications on JBoss using Java Servlets and Java Server Pages. Finally, as a Software Developer at IBM, he collaborated with a team in creating a hybrid mobile app with AngularJS, JavaScript, and other web technologies.
In his first research position, he studied Spatial Databases and created the first mobile app with an onboard spatial database using Ionic, Cordova, and other JavaScript libraries. At his second research position, he wrote a thesis that compared the performance between Native iOS (Swift) and React-Native (a new hybrid mobile app framework by Facebook) using Apple Instruments.. He posted the thesis on his blog and was invited by Facebook to be a writer for React-Native’s official blog. His thesis was the most popular article on Facebook’s blog for 3 months straight.
In John’s Engineering Entrepreneurship class, he was chosen by his professor and Dean Abernathy to accompany them to Silicon Valley and present his team’s "company" to UF Alumni Donors such as Chris Malachowsky (NVIDIA Creator) and David Faircloth (a Vice President at IBM). The event raised money for new Entrepreneurial incubators at UF that will be built sometime in the next few years.
Currently, John works remotely as a contractor developing iOS and Android apps in for engineering firms and as a consultant for Empowered Prosthetics.
