Rani Mahmoudi

Hello, my name is Rani Mahmoudi and I am a second year student at the University of Florida studying Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Neural Engineering. Ever since middle school, I have been fascinated by the opportunities and advancements in the field of medicine, especially in its technology. Once graduating from college, I hope to either attend graduate school or medical school and help develop groundbreaking technology to make healthcare more affordable and widespread.
I have a passion for helping others and this is shown through my 300+ hours of volunteering at UF Health Hospital and through spearheading a program in the Jacksonville community that gave free swim lessons to students with low socioeconomic backgrounds and disabilities. Teaching a child with autism how to swim in just two weeks truly gave me a sense of purpose and only solidified my life goal of helping others in anyway possible, whether through being a practicing physician or through engineering medical devices.
I am a very innovative and team oriented person. I am a team leader for a design team that is attempting to making low cost prosthetic arms using 3D printing technology to give to children who cannot afford the current prosthetics in the market. I also am a part of a BioDesign team that works closely with veterinarians and doctors to design solutions to real world problems such as a prosthetic fin for Winter, a dolphin plagued with the disease Kyphosis. These experiences and team commitments show my collaborative skills and my ability to come up with innovate solutions to problems in medicine.
