Scarlet Seymour

Scarlet is a first year mechanical engineering student from Orlando, Florida. Currently in Empowered Prosthetics she is a member of the above elbow design team. Scarlet would like to use her role in this organization as a platform to encourage female involvement in the STEM areas of study.

Scarlet’s interest in engineering was piqued while attending the ‘Turning Trash into Treasure’  competition at Lockheed Martin. For this design competition, Scarlet and two others constructed an umbrella from rice bags, bamboo and a few other miscellaneous items. In comparison to her simple umbrella, seeing the advanced aerospace, defense and security technologies Lockheed Martin produces is what helped Scarlet identify engineering as a specific passion of hers. During the facility tour, the pride and effort that the engineers invested in their work inspired Scarlet to pursue a future in STEM.

In addition to Empowered Prosthetics, Scarlet is the fundraising manager for Students for Anti-Bullying Initiatives (SABI). SABI is an organization with the goal of using college students to educate younger generations in grades K-12 on the harmful affects of bullying.
